Helping Teens Pursue Their God-Given Calling

Ambassador Christian School’s Calling Preparation equips students to explore who God created them to be as they prepare for the world ahead.

Every parent dreams of watching their teen step confidently into the future, not just ready for college, but ready for life. Yet for many students, those high school years are filled with questions: Who am I? What am I good at? What is God calling me to do?

At Ambassador Christian School in Huntersville, NC, we believe those questions are sacred invitations and opportunities for faith-filled discoveries. As students explore their gifts, they start to see how their talents and faith work together… and that’s the heart of what we call Calling Prep.

Every student begins high school surrounded by mentors who walk beside them through every milestone. Through our Calling Prep journey, they begin to see their education as a season of discernment, where they learn to connect their strengths and passions with the way God designed them.

The Calling Prep Journey

Guided by our vision to launch ambassadors for Christ into all spheres of influence, Calling Prep equips teens to discover who they are and how they can use their gifts to serve others. The journey unfolds over four years, each one designed to help students step toward the future successfully.

Freshman Year: Discover and Discern

Students begin by uncovering their God-given strengths and learning styles through the Multiple Intelligences Assessment. This first step helps them see that success isn’t defined by one measure, but by recognizing the unique ways God has gifted them.

Through prayer, mentorship, and reflection, they start asking deeper questions: What am I good at? What excites me? How can I use these gifts to serve others?

Their first Ambassador Summit experience introduces them to the school-wide process of discovery. During this event, all grades pause together to reflect, hear from speakers, and explore how calling connects to their daily learning.

Sophomore Year: Interests and Insight

In their second year, students build on what they’ve learned by completing an Interest Inventory. This helps them move from what I’m good at to what I truly enjoy. Through advisor check-ins and real-world examples, students begin connecting their interests to possible pathways — whether academic, athletic, artistic, or technical.

This stage is guided by reflection and relationship. Faculty and mentors help students see how their passions align with God’s design for their lives, nurturing growth in who they are becoming.

Junior Year: Personality and Purpose

By junior year, students are ready to think about how their God-given design shapes their impact on the world. They take a personality assessment (such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator), helping them understand how they interact with others and how their natural wiring influences career direction.

Students also learn to share their stories by developing an elevator pitch that allows them to articulate who they are, what they value, and how they can contribute. This process is about helping them understand stewardship and learning to communicate their skills with confidence.

Mentorship deepens here, as advisors and teachers walk beside each student through one-on-one conversations about college and calling.

Senior Year: Aptitude and Application

The journey culminates in the senior year with an aptitude assessment called the YouScience Brightpath, which helps students understand how their minds naturally work and how those strengths connect to future opportunities. Students engage in a career dive, researching where their skills, passions, and God’s direction intersect.

In addition, their Capstone Project becomes a visible expression of this process, a chance to synthesize everything they’ve learned and share their next steps beyond high school. As students plan to pursue college, trades, ministry, or entrepreneurship, each one leaves with a clearer vision of God’s purpose for their life.

Faith-Driven Purpose

At ACS, every decision begins with faith. Calling Prep invites students to see their future not as something to figure out alone, but as a journey of walking with God one step at a time.

When challenges arise or plans change, students learn to rest in the truth of Proverbs 3:5-6:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

This perspective shapes how they approach life. It reminds them that their calling isn’t a single moment of discovery but a daily posture of trusting and following.

At ACS, students are:

Grounded in biblical truth. They’re learning to build their identity on who they are in Christ (Colossians 2:7), not on grades, achievements, or comparison.

Guided in wisdom. They’re practicing discernment through prayer and Scripture, seeking God’s wisdom as they make decisions about college, career, and life (James 1:5).

Growing in purpose. They’re using their gifts to serve others and bring glory to God, understanding that their calling is ultimately to love and lead like Jesus (1 Peter 4:10-11).

Mentorship and Community

Relationships form the backbone of Calling Prep. Every conversation, project, and class is designed to connect students with mentors who know them well and care deeply about their growth.

Teachers, Coaches, and Mentors: Walking Beside Every Student

At ACS, mentorship is intentional. Advisors don’t simply hand out assessments or talk about college plans — they listen first. They ask questions that draw students deeper into reflection: What excites you? How do your strengths reflect the way God designed you?

And it’s not just teachers in classrooms. Coaches reinforce the same principles on the field and in the gym, where teamwork becomes a lesson in perseverance and humility. Club advisors, arts instructors, and faculty members echo a unified message:

You are known. You are gifted. Let’s discover where those God-given gifts can take you.”

Peers and Student Life: Learning Together, Growing Together

Community at Ambassador feels alive and genuine, strengthened through programs and experiences that bring students together.

  • In small group discussions, students share goals and cheer one another on.
  • During lunchtime gatherings, laughter and conversation remind them they’re known and valued.
  • In academic projects and shared discoveries, they learn to collaborate and build trust.
  • Through athletics, clubs, and service opportunities, students practice integrity, leadership, and providing support for their peers.

Prepared for College and Life

The Calling Prep journey doesn’t end at graduation. It continues. By senior year, students have learned how to think critically and trust God’s direction for what comes next.

College: Equipped for Excellence

Ambassador students graduate ready for the pace and expectations of college life. Their high school years include opportunities to stretch themselves through Advanced Placement courses in Calculus, Statistics, Physics, Macroeconomics, and Microeconomics.

In the classroom, academic rigor meets genuine relationships. Teachers don’t just deliver content; they help students connect what they’re learning to their broader goals. In addition to academic preparation, students practice writing college essays, navigating interviews, and exploring scholarship options with faculty mentors.

Highlights:

  • Six AP courses across math, science, and economics
  • Individual academic advising aligned with college pathways
  • Senior capstone presentations integrating faith, learning, and next steps
Career: Ready for Real-World Impact

Calling Prep gives students a practical lens for viewing the workplace, seeing it as an arena for service and creativity. Through partnerships with local businesses and guest speakers, students are exposed to a range of professions and learn to identify where their strengths fit best.

Some students find purpose through hands-on learning. In ACS’ teaching garage, they rebuild a Mustang engine or explore the mechanics behind auto design. In the industrial kitchen, they plan menus and manage hospitality projects. Others take part in home and apartment repair classes, learning practical skills including drywall, plumbing, and electrical that prepare them for independence and work.

Highlights:

  • Local partnerships that connect learning with industry experience
  • Career days featuring professionals across multiple fields
  • Real-world projects emphasizing teamwork and presentation skills
Calling: Living With Leadership

ACS students also learn to view both success and setbacks through the lens of faith, understanding that God’s direction often unfolds one step at a time.

As they explore the connection between their talents and the world’s needs, our high schoolers also discern where God may be calling them to lead and serve. For some, that means pursuing ministry or missions.

Highlights:

  • Ministry exploration and local church partnerships
  • Peer-led service and discipleship opportunities
  • Faith-based leadership development with a focus on humility and integrity
  • Skills for discerning next steps through prayer and reflection
